Fragrance Review

Opium is one reference fragrance in the portfolio of perfumes, with a history that turned it into the favorite subject for many follow-ups. One of these series of flankers is represented by the fragrant pair from 2006, announced as a variation of the original and named Opium Eau d’Orient Fleur Imperiale, the feminine version and Opium Eau d’Orient pour Homme, the male edition and also the subject of this post.

Given that the first perfume with this name left me with a pleasant surprise (I would have it in my wardrobe, however would not consider buying it), I imagined this re-interpretation could not be far from the classic. And my expectations proved to be right, because Opium Eau d’Orient pour Homme is making a name for itself from the beginning.

The opening in this masculine is dominated by pungent accords of white pepper, fighting for prominence alongside a citrus blend shaped from bergamot and grapefruit. Then, as the initial notes subside and Opium Eau d’Orient pour Homme is advancing slowly into the mid development phase, a fresh and green facet is unveiled, thanks to the notes embodied by star anise, bamboo and ginger. This phase is prolonged for approximately one hour, after which the dry down kicks in, war, woody and re-assuring accords that feature amber, sandalwood and vetiver.

This beguiling olfactory structure is perfect for summer period of the year and to honor the occasion, a special flacon was designed. The silhouette of the bottle and the cardboard box are the same, while the color scheme has been modified, in order to represent images of bamboo branches and white pepper, printed with a blue shade over the white background, thus rendering a stylish image to the whole assemble. In my opinion, Opium Eau d’Orient pour Homme is nothing less compared to the original creation, which at this moment seems a little more appropriate for the conservatory people, and constitutes a classic with a fresh twist, designed for a man in search of something new.
