Voyage d’Hermès – An Imaginary Journey

Fragrance Review

Every fragrance launched by Hermès is unique and especially if the designer in charge was . I only wish they had more scents dedicated to men in their collection, given that the large majority of perfumes are unisex.

Voyage d’Hermès was introduced to the public in March 2010 as a unisex fragrance developed by (guess who?) none other than the house perfumer, Jean-Claude Ellena. And considering the brand’s heritage that is associated to travelling, the inspiration for this scent arrived naturally.

I was very anxious to sample the new fragrance from Hermès, and while testing it (soon after its release) I discovered a composition dominated by warm spicy and green accords, characterized by a fresh and woody facet. The suggestion of Jean-Claude Ellena represents an imaginary voyage, associated to a selective form of travelling. The opening of Voyage d’Hermès comes as a blend of Amalfi lemon, spices and cardamom. Later, while the composition develops, the heart unveils a floral mixture with some of the designer’s favorite notes: green tea and hedione. For the dry down, the combination of woodsy notes and musk is structuring the scent’s signature.

The bottle of Voyage d’Hermès was designed by , who managed to re-create the modern version of the collapsible pocket spyglass, protected by an aluminum package. The refillable bottles are also available. The advertising video focuses on the theme of voyage, having as main character a superb horse, in an image of the brand’s logo. Voyage d’Hermès is an excellent fragrance, ideal for any time of the day.
