Very Valentino for Men arrived on the market in 1999, one year after its feminine counterpart. As an oriental woody fragrance developed by perfumer Harry Fremont, Very Valentino for Men has an air of mystery and seduction that acts as a special charm for this creation. It’s a shame that in 2010, as part of the new Valentino deal with Puig, the rest of the house’ fragrances produced under the license of Procter & Gamble were discontinued. Nevertheless, you might still have a chance to find it, in case you check some of the online retailers.
I sampled Very Valentino for Men back in 2004, a time when I discovered an elegant and sensual fragrance, appropriate for a calm man with knowledge about fashion. The composition of Very Valentino for Men starts off with a modern blend of clary sage, anise, nutmeg and coriander. The initial pungent sensation is balanced in the mid development by a floral composition, in which the accords of caraway, lavender, carnation, Brazilian rosewood were employed. For adding strength, there was also used a masculine note of tobacco. The final part of this construction puts emphasis on the woody facet, embodied by the sandalwood and cedarwood accords, juxtaposed to warm amber, musk and a hint of resin.
The bottle that holds Very Valentino for Men resembles the one of the feminine version, however with a more masculine silhouette. The flask with a rectangular shape is made from transparent green glass and topped by a massive stopper that adds a note of elegance. Over the bottle’s surface, the names are printed in a special shade of silver. My conclusion is that Very Valentino for Men represents a pleasant masculine fragrance, in spite of not being one of my favorites.
