In spite of the fact that I enjoyed the previous perfume launches (2011’s Donna & Uomo anniversary edition) from this classic Italian fashion house, I confess that I was somehow unconvinced by the announced My Land, due to hit the shelves in September, as a sophisticated masculine woody chypre.
Probably I got tired by the familiar marketing stories well wrapped in order to capture the audience’s interest and eventually leading to large sales, and the phrases like “celebrates Italian elegance and is for the man who travels the world but feels at home in his own city”, did not strike me any chord. Moreover, from what I discovered on the official website, My Land was characterized as “a symbiotic relationship between a man and his city, like the one that has always linked Trussardi to Milan”.
The fragrance was developed by perfumer Alexandra Kosinski and the official listed notes encompass: mandarin, bergamot, lavender, violet, calone, leather, vetiver and Tonka bean. And the fact is that I was able to identify some of the accord, while sampling My Land a couple of weeks ago, this time in a Douglas store.
My Land begins on a refreshing citrus combination and after no more than 10 minutes it shifts into a mid development, in which, in spite of the dominant floral facet, the accord of leather is insinuating, as a reminder that we are talking about a scent which benefits from this unmistakable note as its leitmotif. When My Land finally reaches dry down and extreme dry down, the leather accord becomes so powerful, yet not at all aggressive, that you almost wish to prolong it (should you, of course, like fragrances that have it in their composition!). And altogether the scent has an average persistence which is encouraging for a prospective acquisition.
The flacon that holds the essence is oozing with Trussardi style, in which the elegant transparent glass with rounded edges is being framed by suggestive leather, perhaps meant also as an allusion to the house tradition in leather craftsmanship. The video commercial was directed by Wim Wenders, who employed as background Milan’s famous landmarks: Sforza Castle, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, La Scala, il Duomo and The Arch of Peace.
