The target of the summer editions in perfumery is to present a product available as limited edition and from time to time to disappear from the perfumery shelves even before the end of the respective year, therefore bumping into them during the next summer is deemed totally impossible. Therefore, if you miss that summer version, you may irremediably consider it gone, the only consolation being the fact that in most of the cases only the packaging is different compared to the original creation.
And speaking about summer edition, yesterday, after four years, I had a chance to test the re-interpreted edition of a classic American scent: Tommy Boy from Tommy Hilfiger. Arrived on the market together with its feminine counterpart (Tommy Girl Summer 2008), Tommy Summer 2008 is a woody aromatic described in the official press release as “bright, simple scent that incorporates the freshness of sea air”.
As I was about to find out later, after spraying only two whiffs on my wrist, this perfume does not differ much from Tommy Boy, and comes a perfect accessory for this summer. Of course, only provided that you are lucky enough to still find it somewhere, as it was my case.
The construction of Tommy Summer 2008 starts off with a refreshing blend of citruses (orange blossom, bergamot, grapefruit) juxtaposed to the exotic accords of coconut and offset by sea air. Then, as the initial notes subside and the scent is heading towards the mid development, the aroma of lavender becomes available, mixed with accords of peppermint, violet and jasmine. In the final part, the perfume settles down, leaving a pleasant trail on the skin. The listed base notes are coconut milk and driftwood.
The flacon that contains Tommy Summer 2008 has the same shape as the original, except it is decorated with horizontal stripe in a blue navy shade.
