Fragrance Review

If someone would ask me to describe the most recent masculine fragrance from , I shall say that I’d rather not. That is, due to the fact that I prefer to remember the other essence with the same name (released in 1999) from one of my favorites garment brands.

Arrived on the market towards the end of 2012, Freedom is depicted on the official website by the adjectives “timeless and irresistible”. However, to me, it did not evoke any emotion, throughout the sampling that I performed this spring. Reportedly, the source of inspiration for this new fragrance is represented by “the open sea”, hence the advertising campaign that features a happy couple basking in the nature elements that render a perfect summer: the beach, the sun and the water.

Then, to my unpleasant surprise, I discovered a plain fragrance which seems to be quite close to the skin, and does not excel in the persistence department either. The opening phase of this masculine comes from a mixture of green accord and citrus, continued later by a complementary spicy facet. After no more than one hour and a half, the whole composition dries down into a woody notes, seasoned with an aroma that brings to mind something dynamic. The list of official notes is comprehensive, encompassing: greenery, basil, violet, juniper, clary sage, white pepper, ginger, orange blossom, coriander, sandalwood and salty driftwood accord.

The same source quoted above refers to Freedom as “the perfect day-to-night perfume”, nevertheless I’d refrain from wearing it on an evening occasion. With respect to the flacon, this sports a clean image and made from transparent glass with rounded edges, adorned with Hilfiger’s signature colors. Overall, and in case you do not have high expectations, Freedom might be one choice for the upcoming summer.
