Everytime I write a post about Tom Ford is quite challenging because I like all his creations and sometimes the words fail to convey the emotions and sensations perceived while smelling the scents. I had the pleasure to sniff Neroli Portofino Collection last summer in Barcelona and the sensation was so intense that I would have purchased it right away if I came up with the cash.
Neroli Portofino Collection opens a distinct chapter on Tom Ford’s Private Blend lines and represents a unisex citrus aromatic fragrance which is available since May 2011. The scent was developed by perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux and is built, as the name implies, around the note of neroli. The description on the official website mentions the phrased “Tom Ford’s reinvention of a classic eau de cologne” and ”instantly evokes the seductive essence of the Italian coast”, which is more than you can hope for from a shared perfume.
Looking through the listed ingredients for Neroli Portofino Collection you will find neroli, bergamot, lavender, lemon and orange flower. However the enumeration is not enough to imagine this scent. Tested upon my wrist, the fragrance offered me an unprecedented sensation of freshness that is present throughout all three development stages. If citruses represent the opening note, the heart leaves room for lavender accord that fights for prominence, followed by another shot of dynamic citruses in the dry down.
Neroli Portofino Collection comes in flask which is an attribute of the Private Blend collection, with a shape that brings to mind a bottle from the apothecary and a blue/green color “designed to evoke the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea” (according to the official press release). With respect to the marketing campaign, Tom Ford has succeeded once again to create controversy, given that the final result presents a young couple, shot naked and splashing onto each the content from some big bottles of this perfume.
Citrus aromatic scents are among my favorites and for me Tom Ford Private Blend Neroli Portofino Collection is one of the few fragrances that define this category.
