Fragrance Review

Since the mid April of this year, when I had a chance to sniff for the first time one of ’s beguiling creations, I was fascinated by L’Air du Desert Marocain and decided that I needed it as soon as possible in my collection. Then, first out of curiosity, later to verify a supposition, I tried as many as I could from this house’s perfumes, to see if these were all that precious. And, to my pleasant surprise (which was somehow expected!), I realize that each and every one of the is absolutely sensational.

The latest perfume to join my list of reviews is No. 12 Eau d’Épices, a unisex fragrance belonging as well to the Classic range, introduced in September 2010 and developed by none other than the self-taught perfumer Andy Tauer. I admit that, prior to spaying a couple of whiffs on my wrist, I expected Eau d’Épices to be more focused on , a note which I found utterly enchanting, however I discovered a clever mix of spices “perfect for the cool winter nights and developing wonderfully under a warm midyear sun” (taken from the description found in the official website).

This fragrance opens up with a hint of citrus accords (red mandarin), offset by the impetuous blend of spices, which encompasses cinnamon, cardamom, clove and coriander. Then, in no more than a couple of minutes, a special floral facet is unveiled, dominated by the accords of orange blossom, Egyptian jasmine and orris root, while rendering a Tauer signature aroma, thanks to the inclusion of incense in its heart notes. The final stage, the dry down, arrives after more than one hour, exhibiting a prominent note of vetiver and ambergris; the other listed base notes are cistus ladaniferus resin and Tonka bean.

The flacon that holds No. 12 Eau d’Épices is the classic pentagram-shaped deep blue glass bottle, adorned with the corresponding number of perfume on the upper left side (printed on a classic orange label) and topped by the rectangular stopper, in an image that stands for exquisite elegance. Overall, Eau d’Épices is definitely the ideal fragrance for the winter time of the year, aimed to warm your olfactory senses, by way of its enchanting blend of spices.
