Jil Sander, the minimalist German designer introduced Sun Men in 2004, an aromatic spicy fragrance, developed by 2 perfumers Beatrice Piquet and Alain Astori. Launched 15 years after its feminine counterpart, Sun Men represents a refreshing essence, which is a symbol of masculine elegance.
I tested Sun Men 2 years ago, due to the fact that I was a fan of 2000’s Sander for Men and back then, I never had an opportunity of buying it. I discovered a fragrance that’s ideal for summer with its wood, spicy and citrus notes. The sensation of freshness in Sun Men comes courtesy of calone, a molecule employed to confer an olfactory impression of seawater scent.
Sun Men begins on a refreshing aroma, made up from a blend of bergamot, rosemary and the above mentioned calone. Then, as the fragrance enters the mid development phase, the notes of frangipani, cardamom and nutmeg enter the stage. This entire structure dries down after a couple of hours to a warm base that encompasses cedar, amber and white musk.
The design of the bottle that holds Sun Men remains faithful to the minimalistic style proposed by Jil Sander. The rectangular-shaped bottle is made from white frosted glass and is topped by an orange cap. The designer and the fragrance’s name appear on the side, painted in the same color scheme as the stopper. Overall, Sun Men from Jil Sander is a luminous and energetic fragrance, for the man who wants something different than the usual citrus scent.
