SoOud Nur – Sheer Oriental Pleasure

SoOud Nur

Fragrance Review

SoOud is a new house established in 2010 by from as a luxury niche. The conception behind SoOud represents the meeting point between two cultures, the East where the “the perfume is the jewel if the skin” and “the moon meets the sun” and the West, where it is found the elegance of French perfumery. According to the founder, the perfumes were inspired by niqab, the oriental veil. Probably the best definition of these perfumes is the one offered by Stéphane Humbert Lucas himself: “I am like Rousseau with his naive paintings, much less nomadic. I love to shut myself up in my studio creating beautiful things. In this way I am free to interpret the object described, to deform it without fear of compromise. Here then are my particular, hippy or anarchic creations”.

Nur belongs to oriental olfactory group and is a unisex fragrance, created by the same Stéphane Humbert Lucas and launched in 2010. The name comes from Arabic and means “the light” which is transmitted as well in the perfume’s image level. The main accords are woody-powdery-balmy constructed with amber, Russian leather, chamomile, Virginia cedar, lemon, incense, artemisia, vanilla from , amber, orris root and apricot. These ingredients represent the precious, refined and smart method to prepare fragrances, a concept that reminds of another niche luxury house, By Kilian, founded by .

Nur impressed me with its special tones of amber, which has no correspondent in the modern world of perfumery. The bottle is meant to embody the mystery and beauty, shaped from an opaque glass which symbolizes the veil that covers the clear part in the middle. It is like a celebration of the hidden beauty of the woman in .

Nur is the perfume that you might love if you’re into oriental scents, emitting a confident, reassuring affection that is royal, yet accessible.
