The most recent olfactory creation from Roberto Cavalli and one of the perfumes with quite an aggressive marketing campaign is Roberto Cavalli by Roberto Cavalli, the new feminine fragrance developed under Cavalli’s new agreement with Coty. Sadly, this also marked the discontinuing of all Cavalli’s previous perfumes and what’s even sadder is the fact that, from where I’m standing, it seems that this decision was hasty, while the end result does not worth a smell.
Roberto Cavalli by Roberto Cavalli was introduced this spring as an oriental floral developed by Louise Turner from Givaudan and with the tagline “an exuberant and sensual floral amber”. An even though I haven’t laid out big expectations, my mind was pretty convinced from the first moments I sprayed some whiffs over my wife’s wrist.
The opening of this fragrance reminded me of an aroma that smelled like peach, contrary to the listed top notes that included only the pink pepper as the outset. Then, after a couple of minutes (no more than 15!) the scent turned into heavy facet which was supposed to contain the note of orange blossom, present as the fragrance’s heart. In spite of this, the feminine character did not appear until dry down and even extreme dry down, the time when the woody base emerged under the aroma of Tonka bean note, listed as base note.
The bottle that contains Roberto Cavalli by Roberto Cavalli “recalls the voluptuous curves of a sensual woman”, as mentioned by the description from the official website. Manufactured from solid transparent glass and topped by a cap having the form of a tiara, which represents also Cavalli’s golden seal, the neck comes decorated with a necklace that brings to mind the famous animal print of the Italian fashion house. The fragrance is fronted by Italian model and actress Elisa Sednaoui, who appears in a short film directed by Swedish Johan Renck.
