As I’m sure you heard it here before, I am a huge fan of the fragrances based on incense. And given that this olfactory note is very diverse, you are faced with a large pool of options at the time of looking for a scent associated to this special aroma. It was only a month ago, when a found my favorite (No. 02 L’Air du Desert Marocain), subsequent to a long quest and the last Saturday I finally discovered a perfume that replicates 100% my childhood memories on incense.
This precious scent is called Olibanum and the name of the perfume house is Profumum. As an artisanal Italian perfumery, Profumum is famous for their scent’s persistence, explained by the nearly 43% concentration employed in their products, compared to an average of approximately 20%. The business that was founded by the Durante family in the southern of Italy, more precisely Sant’Elena Sannita is currently managed by the youngest Durante generation represented by the brothers Giuseppe, Luciano, Felice and Maria. In 1996 their launched the current line of perfumes and 2007 marked the debit of the woody aromatic masculine scent called Olibanum.
Besides its excellent lasting power, Olibanum has an oily aspect because one of the consequences of the high concentration of perfume is a reduced amount of alcohol, hence the appearance. The listed ingredients for olibanum are incense, myrrh, orange blossom and sandalwood and upon sampling, I would advise you to smell it no sooner than 5 minutes subsequent to the application on the skin, because then and only then, the fragrance settles and you will be able to perceive its true dimension. For me, Olibanum represents the most pleasant aroma of incense, perceived from the beginning and until the end, therefore if you’ll ever want to smell incense in the most pure form, this is the scent that you are supposed to buy.
Olibanum comes in an elegantly shaped bottle, made from transparent glass and topped by a stopper that looks as if was made of wood. According to the classical Latin alphabet (in which the V letter is equivalent of the English letter U) and similar to the more known house of Bvlgari, the names on the glass are printed in Latin.
