Ormonde Jayne Ormonde Man Review

Fragrance Review

There was a time (more than one year ago!) when I though sniffing a scent made by was impossible. Because these were only available in selected stores, and besides at the time I visited , I was not aware of its existence. Luckily, one of the niche/luxury perfumery shops in my area decided to import these essences, and hence the faith smiled upon me.

The niche perfumery based in London and called Ormonde Jayne was established by in November 2002. Their first perfume was Ormonde Woman, introduced that very year, while its masculine counterpart Ormonde Man, arrived on the market in 2004. And due to the fact that, prior to deciding which perfumes I should test, I did some research (as always, by the way), I finally settled for Ormonde Man, a masculine , leaving 2005’s Isfarkand for later.

First and foremost, and somehow contrasting with my abiding high expectations, Ormonde Man proved to be a quiet type of fragrance. Yes, on the official website this is praised with epithets like “a most sophisticated fragrance” and “complex and full of character”, however, at least in my opinion, it seemed to be less than I was looking for.

Ormonde Man represents an excellent structured, well-behaved type of fragrance, but I’m afraid this is not enough for recommending it wholeheartedly. On my skin, this did not display the desired sillage, and even if I’m not so interested in this topic, it wasn’t long lasting either.

Ormonde Man opens on a refreshing combination that puts together citrus accords combined with spices (bergamot, juniper berry, pink pepper, cardamom and coriander seeds). Then, in no more than 10 minutes, the construction veers to a woody facet (oudh and black hemlock), which is quite discrete. And although this woody facet is prolonged until dry down and further on, in the final part it becomes an element in a much more complex mixture that involves accords of sandalwood, cedar, vetiver and musk.

The presentation of the perfume is very interesting, because Ormonde Man comes in a rectangular bottle with perfectly cut edges, made from transparent glass and topped by an elegant transparent cap as well. The liquid has a golden-like shade, while the packaging box features an orange hue in beautiful cubic form and is tied with black ribbon.
