Ormonde Jayne Isfarkand Review

Fragrance Review

My second fragrance tested from the -based niche house was Isfarkand, a masculine , “super cool in style, vibrant and sensual”, if I was to take for granted the description found on their official website. Introduced in 2005 (initially under the name Isfahan, after the historical city from Iran, former capital of the Persian Empire) and coming after the prosaic experience I had with Ormonde Man, Isfarkand proved to be exactly what I needed in order to appreciate this British house at its best.

The notes that shaped the olfactory pyramid in Isfarkand were beautifully balanced for rendering “an uncomplicated, yet dynamic scent”. As a result, the first moments that followed spraying two whiffs of Isfarkand on my wrist coincided with a strong and refreshing aroma of citruses, introduced thanks to a mixture of lime, mandarin and bergamot. Then, as the initial notes subside, a spicy facet announced an interesting character. At that stage, the only accord present in the composition was the pink pepper. Much later, in approximately one hour and a half, I was delighted by a combination of green and woody notes, destined to bring profundity and a more personal component into the scent. The listed base notes included cedar wood, vetiver and moss.

Following the test, my olfactory memory remained with the smell of an interesting masculine perfume, able to exhibit a wealthy aroma that I did not encountered lately among the fresh releases. Due to its rich and intense smell, I imagine Isfarkand as being related at some point with Obsession, however I would definitely not place it on my “to buy” list (the constant readers know that Obsession is one of my all-time favorites).

As far as the bottle goes, this is Ormonde Jayne’s signature bottle, made from transparent glass with rectangular shapes and decorated with a Japanese ribbon motif. One interesting aspect is that neither of these perfumes exhibits any name on the bottle, except the inscription “ORMOND JAYNE London Perfumery”, therefore one has to know them very well.
