The name of a perfume can sometimes be misleading and one recent story I am going to share with you today involves Citrine, a unisex woody spice fragrance from one of my recent discoveries, Olivier Durbano. I admit that, to my ignorance, when I first read about this scent I was convinced that it was yet another citrus that I intended to dismiss. Nothing could be further than the truth and, as I was about to realize later citrine, the source of inspiration for this perfume, is a type of quartz notable for its yellow color, developed as a result of the iron oxides encountered in its composition. Moreover, citrine does not require purification whatsoever, due to the fact that it is capable to absorb and dissipate all negative energies.
Throughout the entire development stages of Citrine I was very pleasantly surprised by the innovative concoction of citruses and incense, which renders an exquisite facet to the perfume. Of course, Black Tourmaline remains my favorite from Olivier Durbano, however Citrine comes as the second best.
Subsequent to spraying just two whiffs on my wrist, I was able to detect the citrus notes from the opening (Sicilian lemon and wild orange), while the other listed top notes included ginger, pink pepper and elemi incense. And, in spite of its inclusion in the beginning, I was only able to distinguish the incense in the extreme dry down. Speaking of which, Citrine exhibits an incredible persistence. After a while, the mid development featured a woody floral blend (mimosa, lignum vitae, rosewood, carrot seeds), and eventually dried down to a warm musky facet: grey amber, myrrh, musk, beeswax.
The flacon that contains Citrine is represented by the signature Olivier Durbano’s flask, in which there are no hints that may reveal the perfume’s name expect the liquid’s color corresponding to the rock. This time, the transparent glass highlights an enchanting shade of yellow, available exclusively for the announced final fragrance in the “Bijoux de Pierres Poemes”, arrived on the market in October last year.
