As the name implies, Duro (Italian for “tough”) aims at being the masculine perfume in its rawest form. And given that it was developed by Alessandro Gualtieri, the man behind the brand Nasomatto, I would expect no les, since his innovation is evident with each new launch.
As I intended to sample Duro on my skin, I was warned by the sales person, with respect to the fact that this was an incredible long lasting perfume and if I’m not prepared I would better reconsider and choose something else instead. I admit I was a little confused, because I could not imagine that this woody chypre fragrance for men, introduced in 2008, could possibly be that persistent, but I was wrong.
Duro possesses a longevity never experience by me until that time (after a while, I had the same feeling with 1740 Marquis de Sade, from Histoires de Parfums), substantiated by its presentation, the perfume being available in 15-40% concentration (perfume extract). The description on the official website mentions that “The fragrance aims to enhance all the manifestation of male strength” and this is a good way to start your exploration.
If you’ll apply Duro directly on your skin (in the beginning it’s better to sniff it on the blotter!), you’ll realize its unique character. The opening has a pinch of spices and aromatic notes that will breathe life into your olfactory senses. Then, there’s a long lasting heart of woods and Oud wood notes, followed by a warm, musky base, while this whole construction is wrapped in coumarin, dry woods and elegant leather. I’ll guarantee that you’ll never experience this sensation again and if you love atypical fragrances, you’ll adore Duro.
The bottle chips in to the image, with a combination from wood and glass in which the sleek bottle exhibits a rectangular wooden stopper, a detail that contributes to the style of this masterpiece.
