In 2003, the unveiling of Narciso Rodriguez For Her was considered an innovation and for me it remains a reference in the feminine perfumes of the brand. The ones that followed were between OK (For Her Eau de Parfum Version) and banal (2009’s Essence), therefore I considered that the American fashion designer needed to invent something new.
And this means Eau de Musc, a fragrance standing in my list for testing for quite some time, and flanker to the already mentioned Essence. As my wife agreed to help me with this test, I was able to sniff it and also make the difference between this one and Essence in Color, a perfume released also last year.
Arrived in the market in March 2011, Essence Eau de Musc is a feminine floral woody musk, described by the official press release as “a new page in the history of essence, unveiling the duality of the modern woman, sensual and radiant” and “a subtle composition of citrus, floral and amber notes that all resonate around a heart of musk, the fragrance signature of Narciso Rodriguez”.
The construction of Essence Eau de Musc begins impetuously with a blend of citrus, bergamot and spices, followed quite rapidly in the mid development by a gentle floral facet that includes iris and floral notes. The powdery accords and the sensual musk are preserved for the dry down, in which the favorite note of the designer Narciso Rodriguez offers a demonstration of how a feminine perfume should smell like.
The flacon that holds Essence Eau de Musc is a re-interpretation of Essence’s “mirror” flask, except this time it exhibits a slimmer profile, thus shaping an image of elegance and light.
