Montblanc Individuel – The Exotic Touch of Black Chocolate

Fragrance Review

Individuel was introduced in 2003 as an masculine fragrance, developed by perfumer . This perfume was aimed at an exceptional man and in order to shape such a special character has resorted to a large number of ingredients.

Four years ago, while testing the newly launched (at that time!) Homme Exceptionnel, my attention was caught by a fragrance which oozed class and style, with an image that was constructed for a selective character and this scent was Individuel. Therefore, this was my next target and after that moment I realized that, similar to the distinction conferred by its luxury goods, Montblanc was excelling also in the fine art of perfumery.

After two soft whiffs on my wrist, I was able to detect the initial notes employed in this beguiling masculine fragrance. The refreshing bergamot is juxtaposed to the spiciness of coriander and cinnamon, over which a blend of juniper berries, lavender and rosemary was added. Then, when Montblanc Individuel reached the mid development (in approximately 15 minutes), the floral facet was unveiled, by way of a strong aroma of orange blossom and geranium, combined with notes of violet and jasmine. The dry down phase settles the composition and confer it balance. The base notes include sandalwood, oakmoss, vetiver and patchouli, offset by the exotic aroma of black chocolate and Tonka bean, and with added accords of raspberry, warm amber, sweet vanilla and sensual musk.

The flacon that contains Montblanc Individuel is synonymous with elegance, being made from transparent glass that reveals a pale blue liquid and topped by a metallic plate and a stopper adorned with Montblanc’s logo. The fragrance benefits as well from an interesting video advertisement, shot in the desert and introducing the tagline “created for one man only”.
