Homme Exceptionnel is a “fragrance that pays tribute to men of remarkable achievements” as it says in the description from the perfume’s advertisement. And it’s justified to call the result exceptional. I sniffed Homme Exceptionnel in 2008, just 2 months subsequent to its release. The result: I liked this woody aromatic scent sufficiently to consider an acquisition (that might have paired perfectly with a Mont Blanc product that I have in my wardrobe), but sadly this never happened.
Homme Exceptionnel is a fragrance which is imbued with the fresh spicy aroma of coffee, subdued by the energy of mandarin orange and the elegance of lavender. The first thing that you notice in this exquisite fragrance is the bottle, with rectangular shapes and manufactured from transparent glass that reveals a liquid with whisky-like color. The stopper is also transparent and adorned with Mont Blanc’s logo on top, while the packaging box is very elegant and sports an amber color scheme.
On the olfactory department, Homme Exceptionnel begins excellent, with a blend of coffee, subdued by lavender and mandarin orange. The top notes are pungent and feel very refreshing but the equilibrium is balanced later, in no more than 20 minutes, with a more subtle mid development, that’s mixing ginger, mint and sage. After a couple of hours, the perfume becomes obvious again, due to a combination of amber, patchouli and white musk present in the dry down.
The video advertisement for Mont Blanc Homme Exceptionnel is innovative, because the company has selected a fresh face, Joshua Bell, an American Grammy Award-winning violinist, who plays a part from Antonio Vivaldi’s L’estate (The Summer) in an image that confers class to the marketing campaign. Overall, Homme Exceptionnel is a fragrance for a stylish man, with strong moral values that are perfectly sustained by the Mont Blanc tradition.
