In spite of the fact that she’s only been the image of Mango since the fall of 2011, I tend to associate the Spanish fashion house with Kate Moss, the rebel English model. A clothing design and manufacturing company, Mango is essentially Catalan, having its origins in the year 1984 in Barcelona.
Nowadays, the company’s headquarters is located in Palau-solità i Plegamans, a municipality positioned 25 kilometers north from the city of Barcelona. According to Wikipedia, the brand’s target is “to be present in every city” in the world, holding currently more than 2,000 stores in 103 countries. As an aside, one interesting fact is that, in spite of being Spanish and holding the majority of its stores in Spain, Turkey is the country which currently has the largest number of Mango shops.
Developed under an agreement with Puig, the international cosmetic giants based also in Barcelona, the Mango’s debut in perfumery took place in 2004 with a feminine scent, Mango Adorably, followed in 2006 by Mango Delirium, another fragrance dedicated to women. Lady Rebel Rock Deluxe arrived on the market in June 2012, as a flanker to 2009’s Lady Rebel. The fragrance is a feminine chypre floral and captures your attention from the moment you notice it on the shelves, due to its dark color scheme.
From the first time that I saw it last summer in the section of novelties at Sephora I urged my wife to sample it and when this finally happened all that I can say is that the fragrance exceeded my expectations. Considering its positioning and the target, I’ll say that Lady Rebel Rock Deluxe is a perfect choice compared to most of the aromas you will find these days in its “league”.
The initial opening of citruses is quickly balanced by a combination of fruits and flowers that sits nicely on the skin and provides a type of freshness that feels pleasant for the nostrils. After approximately one hour, the final part kicks in with a combination of patchouli and leather. The rest of the official notes are: bergamot, grapefruit, tuberose and orange blossom.
Like I mentioned in the beginning, the dominant chromatic of Lady Rebel Rock Deluxe is black, softened by a hue of intense pink. The bottle was made from opaque glass and exhibits perfectly cut edges, while being highlighted by a stopper that matches the ensemble. The video commercial talks about the rebel side of the fragrance, while pinning it to a young female audience.
