I was familiar with Lubin since the time I sniffed Idole de Lubin, a perfume which, in spite of its good references, did not managed to surprise me in any way. But, let’s not forget that Lubin is a classic French niche line (established in Paris in 1798!), therefore any new release that bears this house’ signature might as well become a “must” on my “selected for test” list.
And that’s exactly what happened in the past November, when I read about an upcoming launch consisting of a series of 3 perfumes from Lubin: Korrigan, Galaad and Akkad. From this trio, the last scent became a source of interest for me, due to the presence of incense in its ingredients. Hence, I wanted to see exactly how well would Akkad make it on my benchmark and this you are going to read in the following.
As far as the list of official notes goes, the perfumer Delphine Thierry, in charge with the development of this essence, selected an interesting combination: mandarin, bergamot, clary sage, cardamom, elemi, frankincense, styrax, amber, vanilla and patchouli. The result: a unisex oriental spicy that makes in on a honorable top four spot on the list.
Akkad took me to the days when I was a child and I used to go to church with my grandmother mostly every Sunday and that remembrance happened one hour subsequent to spraying a couple of whiffs on the skin. The beginning of the olfactory construction in Akkad is represented by a moderate citrus which does not bring any clue regarding to what you might expect later on. The incense facet, perceivable in approximately 60 minutes was prolonged until the end, when I discovered that Akkad exhibits a quite good persistence. One of its ingredients, the clary sage, also known as “the sacred herb” is reportedly famous for its euphoric, harmonizing properties.
The bottle that holds Akkad is re-constructing the unusual silhouette of Idole’s flacon, this time the color scheme rendering an allusion to amber. For a change, the back side of the bottle was made from a glass with an amber-like hue, while the front side sports a clearer nuance. Overall, Akkad is one fragrance to test, if you’re after something more than the usual in perfumery.
