My first perfume tested from Lorenzo Villoresi, and also one that I’ve been waiting for quite a while to sniff, is called Incensi. The name stands as Italian for “incense” and in case you’re after a rich and spicy perfume, with a touch of elegance and classic that’s almost vanish these days, then Incensi might be an alternative.
Coming from the Italian perfumer with the eponymous same name, who established this niche line in 1990 in Florence, the house of Lorenzo Villoresi is also renowned for delivering “bespoke fragrance by appointment”, apart from their “ready to wear” line, which encompasses personal fragrances, bath and body products and home fragrances.
Incensi was released in 1997 as a unisex oriental woody fragrance created by perfumer Lorenzo Villoresi. Characterized by a generous array of ingredients, the scent was meant to evoke the voyages along the spice trail and, in addition, the ancient ceremony of purification.
I have to confess that, subsequent to testing almost everything available on the market (until present time) that is related to incense, I wasn’t expecting too much from Incensi. Fortunately, this fragrance impressed me with an unexpected emotion of a “feel-good” fragrance, the kind that shapes a buying impulse. Sadly, my “to buy” list is crowded and the incense-benchmark is quite complete therefore I do not think I can squeeze one more name on any of these. But, in the future, who knows?
The opening of Incensi is dominated by a distinct aroma of spices, citrus and apple, followed much later by some additional spicy facet, subdued with a flowery allusion. For the final part, the precious incense is revealed however, for those of you that do not appreciate this aroma it’s safe to stay that you won’t feel bothered by it.
The list of notes is impressive and includes: green notes, elemi, galbanum, apple, lemon and bergamot in the top notes; cinnamon, labdanum (rockrose), ginger, mimosa and pepper in the heart; and benzoin, frankincense, myrrh, storax, Tolu balsam, opoponax and sandalwood in the base. The flacon that holds the essence exhibits a nice shape with perfectly cut edges, while the blue color of the glass makes you imagine the serene sea water. Overall, if you love classic fragrance that makes you feel special, do give Incensi a try, as you’ll be amazed by its rich and spicy nature.
