An illustration of the classic Italian style in perfumery, Venezia by Laura Biagiotti was introduced in 1992 as an oriental woody scent, developed by perfumer Michel Almairac. Reportedly, the idea for coming up with this fragrance came to Laura Biagiotti after a voyage to Pachino, a small city in the Province of Syracuse, Sicily.
As a perfume dedicated to the capital of the Venetian Lagoon, Venezia is a warm and gentle fragrance, however with an oriental facet and a pronounced Italian touch. The construction of this perfume starts off with a juicy fruity combination that contains also a green accord; the top notes encompass plum, peach and bergamot accords. Then, after no more than 10 minutes it follows a soft floral heart, imbued with a beguiling aroma of rose, offset by spicy carnation, a powerful accord of cinnamon and iris. In the dry and the extreme dry down, the woody facet is brought forward, by a warm and sweet blend of sandalwood, Tonka bean, vanilla and benzoin.
The bottle that contains Venezia is an example of design made in the ‘90’s and full of symbols. First, there is the cap, which represents an allusion to the shape of bell tower from San Giorgio Monastery, and then there’s the liquid color which reminds of the shade from the night lights in Piazza San Marco, in an evening summer. The more recent video commercial is a very interesting short movie full of Italian passion and having Antonio Vivaldi’s Estate as soundtrack.
Overall, Venezia is a very pleasant fragrance, which evokes me the iconic Obsession for Women from Calvin Klein.
