Lancome La Vie Est Belle – Could Have Been a Contender

Fragrance Review

As a brand that I value considerably, Lancome comes directly associated in my mind with the cosmetic products (their revolutionary foundations, mascaras, and so on), but first and foremost are the fragrances (among which 1995’s Poeme and 2007’s Hypnose Homme stand on top of my personal preferences ). Having such a background, it is easy to imagine that any new launch in cosmetics or perfumery might represent a point of interest for me.

Enter May 2012: the time I read about an upcoming launch (scheduled for August that very year!) named La Vie Est Belle. With such a prospective (the name of the perfume is the French phrase for “Life is beautiful”), my attention became captivated and it was only a matter a time until I had an opportunity to sniff the fragrance (as always, my wife agreed to test it, subsequent to asking her nicely!).

Featuring an olfactory structure that preserves the used and abused olfactory pyramid, La Vie Est Belle opens on a floral harmony that, after the initial notes slowly fade away, veers to a gourmand heart, redolent enough for giving you an idea of a tasty desert. Then and in spite of the fact that La Vie Est Belle does not exhibit a powerful sillage, I should mention also its interesting dry down, insofar the scent demonstrated a close to the average persistence.

La Vie Est Belle represents a feminine (the listed official notes: iris, patchouli, Tonka bean, praline, blackcurrant, orange blossom, vanilla, pear and jasmine) and was developed by a trio of perfumers: , and . The face selected to front this fragrance is the famous American actress , the result being a remarkable video commercial in which it is induced the capacity of this essence for being different and breaking free from conventions. Moreover, the flacon that holds La Vie Est Belle makes appeal to elegance, with a silhouette that evokes feminine grace.

Overall, La Vie Est Belle will appeal to all Lancome fans, in search of something new, given that this represents the first major launch in feminine perfumery from Lancome, within the past four years.
