Lately I came to the conclusion that I developed quite an interest for sampling every niche perfume that I consider interesting, provided that the quality stands as an imperative ingredient in the process of production. One of my most recent discoveries that I wanted to share it with you is Laboratorio Olfattivo, an Italian niche perfumery house, founded in 2010 and originated from fragrance store with exactly the same name.
Their debut line encompassed 4 fragrances: Alambar, Alkemi, Cozumel and Daimiris, and the event took place in March 2010. And given that, Cozumel seemed to me the most interesting from this series, I decided that I should test is first. Judging from the excellent impression, I imagine I will come back to their products.
Cozumel is an aromatic fougere, advertised as masculine and developed by perfumer Marie Duchene, who found her inspiration during a voyage in Mexico, hence she “infused the olfactory pyramid with some Mexican sun, wafts of aromatic herbs mixed with the intimate smell of men’s skin and the wild smells of a distant island.” (according to the description from the official website).
The olfactory structure of Cozumel is dominated by the interesting accord of Indian hemp, which belongs to the heart note and the beguiling combination of woody notes and incense from the base. The opening is represented by a pungent blend of bergamot, aromatic notes and Vietnamese basil. Then, as Cozumel advances slowly into the mid development, the above mentioned accord of Indian hemp takes the stage, juxtaposed to an exquisite mix that features notes of clary sage, blonde tobacco and amber. Much later, in the dry down and extreme dry down, I perceived a hint of incense, a note that I absolutely love in all its forms, coupled with a few woody accords that included cedarwood, sandalwood and Tonka bean.
As far as the flacon that holds Cozumel, this exhibited a transparent glass having a cylindrical shape and highlighted by the white label that almost covers the front side, while being excellently completed by an elegant black stopper. This image reflects elegance and a desire to create products out of passion for quality.
