Arrived on the market one year later after the introduction of the original, Kenzo Power Cologne is a flanker to 2008’s Kenzo Power, a perfume which enjoyed quite a high popularity. This new fragrance is a masculine citrus aromatic developed by perfumer Olivier Polge in the famous Kenzo minimalistic way, reprising the woody spicy facet from the previous edition and turning it into a fresher creation.
On the official website, this perfume is characterized as “the cologne interpretation of Kenzopower” and “the marriage between the emblematic ingredients of a cologne and the amber-woody intensity of Kenzopower”.
I was not such a fan of the original, but, after sniffing Kenzo Power Cologne I must say that this is an interesting alternative for the cologne type of scent. Built around aromatic plant and citruses, this perfume exhibits a straight freshness, which is clearly announced from the outset, highlighted by a blend of bergamot, lemon verbena and cardamom. Then, as the initial notes vanish and Kenzo Power Cologne enters mid development, you will be able to perceive a spicy facet, which includes notes of black pepper, coriander and geranium. The black pepper is not so powerful and the composition is well-balanced. Later, in the dry down and the extreme dry down, the woody facet is revealed, embodied by cedarwood accord, juxtaposed to notes of vetiver and Tolu balm.
The shape of the flacon that contains Kenzo Power Cologne has preserved the “sake” silhouette and turned into transparent, and so was the packaging box. And the fact is that this is a very pleasant image for the eye, in my opinion better compared to the original perfume.
