Inspired by the name of Kenzo’s first boutique in Paris, Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant was introduced in 1996, as a feminine oriental spicy fragrance, developed by perfumer Dominique Ropion. This classic scent is meant to be an exotic expedition into the green abundance of the nature. The name of the perfume represents as well a tribute to Kenzo’s cult animal, the elephant, considered as his lucky charm by the famous Japanese designer. Moreover, the environmental theme of the fragrance brings to mind the vegetation in the first instance, quickly followed by the animal, in this case, the elephant.
My first contact and sniffing of Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant happened 12 years ago, at the time when this was one of my aunt’s favorite in her collection. I was instantly intrigued by the curious shape of the transparent glass, topped by a cap with the form of an elephant. The packaging box looks very colorful, featuring a violet flower that adorns practically the entire surface and contrasted by the yellow color scheme of the lateral. The video commercial presents a woman in a cyber environment, facing a bunch of elephant which are moving towards her in an image that suggests the empathy between humans and nature.
The structure of Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant is built around precious ingredients, carefully selected by its designer. The beginning is an exotic shot of citrus and spices: mandarin, cardamom and cumin. Then, as the perfume enters the mid development phase, a gourmand facet is revealed with accords of liquirice, ylang-ylang and gardenia. As Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant enters slowly in the dry down, you will perceive a warm note of amber, in a blend with vanilla and patchouli.
Overall, Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant is a classic fragrance dedicated to a powerful woman, in touch with her green side.
