Fragrance Review

Since his early debut (at the age of 22) in the fashion industry, as one of ’s apprentices, the German fashion designer, artist and photographer turned into a reference for this domain. With a career that included the famous names of , Chloe and Fendi, the year 1982 marks his arrival at , where he went on to become chief designer and creative director.

His connection with the perfumery happened in 1978, when the line of fragrances called Karl Lagerfeld debuted with Lagerfeld Classic, a masculine fragrance. Karleidoscope is the most recent release of the house, arrived on the market in September 2011 as a feminine developed by perfumer . In the press release that preceded his upcoming launch, Karl Lagerfeld mentioned that “Karleidoscope reveals not only the diversity of a muse, it reveals the aura of each individual woman!”

Until my wife discovered this scent in , I was not aware of its availability, but after sniffing its sophisticate aroma on her skin, I was touched by the combination of classic elegance and modernity. From the outset, Karleidoscope highlighted accords of angelica and violet, followed in approximately 20 minutes by a floral blend that included freesia, heliotrope and patchouli. The base of the scent contains notes of Tonka bean and benzoin, rendering a memorable trail that represents the essence of the perfume.

Karleidoscope was presented in a bottle having an original shape that brings to mind a kaleidoscope, while the face selected for the advertising campaign is the Italian supermodel . Overall, Karleidoscope will appeal to the ladies who look for more in a perfume, besides the usual marketing gimmick.
