After the success of 2004’s John Varvatos a feminine version was needed. Hence, in September 2008, John Varvatos for Women arrived on the market. This chypre floral fragrance was developed by perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux from Givaudan, author of all the fragrances released by John Varvatos, with one exception: Rock Volume One.
Due to the fact that all these scents are hard to come by, I was extremely happy last summer when I saw John Varvatos for Women in the perfumery section of Barcelona-El Prat Airport. As a result, I solicited again the precious help of my wife, to be able to study the notes of this perfume. Reportedly, the source of inspiration for this scent was the type of woman that fascinates John Varvatos, embodied by a sexy person, with an individual stylish way.
In order to reflect this vision of the famous fashion designer, Rodrigo Flores-Roux has come up with some interesting notes, among which grappa happens to be something special. Thus, John Varvatos for Women starts with a fruity blend of mandarin orange, Georgian apricot and Damask plum, infused in grappa. Then, as the mid development approaches, you will be transported into a combination of Turkish rose, Egyptian jasmine, Indian mango blossom and lily. After a couple of hours, the dominant note of honey is unveiled in the dry down, subdued by patchouli, Tonka bean and oakmoss.
The bottle that holds John Varvatos for Women was designed by Doug Lloyd, the owner and creative director from Lloyd & Co and features a delicate shape, evoking the silhouette of a grappa bottle. The rose gold color scheme and the nice curves are suggesting femininity and elegance.
