It was the end of the year 2008 when I managed to sniff the first olfactory creation conceived by the brilliant mind of John Galliano, thanks to a tester received by my wife (who was my girlfriend at that time). The smell was absolutely enchanting, matched in intensity and sophistication only by Tom Ford Black Orchid. Of course, the genius behind the scent, John Galliano was deeply involved in the apparition of this masterpiece. Therefore, in spite of the fact that the fragrance was not actually a result of his olfactory effort, the British designer born in Gibraltar deserves all the credit for this work of art. And the fact that Galliano is one of my favorite designers only adds to the pleasure.
Reportedly, the source of inspiration for the perfume was the contemporary girl who wants to feel in control, however delicate and fragile in the same time. John Galliano by John Galliano appeared on the market in October 2008 as a floral aldehyde feminine fragrance, developed by perfumers Christine Nagel and Aurelien Guichard.
It is obvious from the first sniffs that this perfume is something totally different from what is available today on the market, like the fashion designs of its creator. John Galliano by John Galliano opens with accords of aldehydes, mixed with bergamot and angelica. Also in here, you will recognize a carefully dosed hint of violet. Later, the heart develops the dominant note of violet, which is featured in a blend of Bulgarian Rose, peony, iris and lavender. The base is responsible for the musky character of the fragrance, in which a combination of warm amber, white musk, Virginia cedar and patchouli was employed. The trail has a long persistence and overall there is an excellent projection of the fragrance on the skin.
The bottle and the packaging represent a true work of art, result of John Galliano’s inspiration. The bottle that reminds of a woman’s profile is manufactured from a transparent glass in different shades of violet and black, while being topped with a stopper that replicated the silhouette of the gothic letter G. The packaging box comes in the shape of a book and evokes a Galliano fashion show. The commercial for the fragrance was directed by French fashion photographer and video music director Jean-Baptiste Mondino.
John Galliano by John Galliano is a signature scent, an extremely personal fragrance from a powerful and exquisite character, a man named by Time Magazine “The most influential designer of his generation”.
