Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Terrible – A Rebel Fragrance

Fragrance Review

Two years ago, when Terrible was introduced I was very close to buying it. In spite of the fact that I like a lot (however never purchased it!), I felt that a re-interpretation was exactly what I needed. Sadly, in the end I gave up the idea, however the scent remains one of my favorites.

Le Male Terrible is an masculine fragrance, developed by perfumer . The tag line from the official website mentions that “you are going to hate loving him…” and the bad attitude announced in the description is perceived as well in the olfactory department. Le Male Terrible is a more obvious version of Le Male, targeted at the actual generation.

While both scents are excellent, the heart of Le Male is developing an over sweet aroma on my skin, which I prefer to avoid in the fragrances from my collection. The construction of this new scent does not bring any innovation. Le Male Terrible opens on a pungent note of grapefruit and pink pepper, followed quite rapidly by a heart in which lavender is the dominant note, juxtaposed by some aromatic notes. When the fragrance reaches its dry down phase, it settles to a quieter, warm finish, in which the vetiver, vanilla, amber and provide the ideal trail to become memorable.

The bottle that holds Le Male Terrible is a re-interpretation of the classic shape from Le Male, in which the sailor’s outfit looks worn out and slashed by something that could be identified as a razor blade. To complete this image, the same shaving accessory comes attached to the bottle’s neck, while the packaging box was painted in black with the name of the fragrance written in red, for contrast. Le Male Terrible is ideal for a man with a powerful character, who feels comfortable with being the center of attention.
