At the time Le Male was launched I was not into perfumes, therefore I lost an opportunity to have it in my wardrobe. Afterwards, when it became ubiquitous it kind of abandoned its charm. Then, two years ago I witnessed the launch of Kokorico and although I found it rather interesting, something prevented me for buying it (as of this time, the only fragrance from Jean Paul Gaultier that I truly crave for is Gaultier2!).
Now, there’s Le Beau Male and this is the first perfume that I’m actually contemplating the idea of having a bottle of my own. Partly because I had the pleasure to use it as decant for a few days in a row (thanks to Sephora!) and in spite of the remark from my wife (she noticed that I smelled like a call-girl) I might end up with a bottle. Nevertheless, this is unlikely to happen in the near future.
Le Beau Male was introduced in February 2013 as a re-interpretation of 1995’s Le Male in a fresher key. Developed by perfumer Francis Kurkdjian (who authored the original as well!) this masculine aromatic fougere include notes of mint, lavender, vanilla, sandalwood and musk.
Le Beau Male stays very close to the skin and for a change it has a normal persistence. As for its behavior, the opening is barely perceptible (I guess I ought to smell the mint, sorry!), but what I founded fascinating is that in the mid development and towards the dry down it reminded me of Le Male. However it was more sensual and less aggressive compared to the original.
The signature tin box representing the packaging became on this occasion, while the bottle preserved the male torso silhouette, however dominated by a white hue, suggesting a hot passion in an ice cold atmosphere. Overall, Le Beau Male could be an excellent choice for the hot period of the year, in case you got tired of the iconic Le Male.
