Fragrance Review

is a fragrance that founded its source of inspiration in the Parisian atmosphere with underground cabarets, in which elegant men were accustomed to party until dawn, drinking and dancing. Developed by perfumer , this masculine fragrance was introduced in 1988, as reminiscence for the night life and a passion for freedom. In the year 1989, Jazz received the in the category Men’s Fragrance of the Year – Luxe, a well deserved acknowledgment for this special scent.

As a fragrance that is hard to get by these days, I managed to get a sniff on it in 2008, 20 years after its arrival on the market. Upon spraying it on my wrist, the first impression given by the top notes was that of something green, in which the combination of lavender, bergamot, basil, anise, cardamom and cinnamon captivated me entirely. The pleasant aroma of lavender is perceived also in the mid development, in which there’s a floral blend of iris, carnation, geranium and jasmine. After that, Jazz sat nicely on the skin, developing into a woody dry down, thanks to a mixture of sandalwood, amber, , musk and a hint of incense, all wrapped in the sensual note of leather.

For the presentation, the creators employed the black and white color scheme, an attribute of the jazz scene and reminder of the black and white keys on a piano. The elegant flask with rectangular shape is made from transparent glass and topped by a dark stopper having the form of a parallelepiped, while the packaging box is like the negative image of the bottle, with a black lower part, over which the Jazz comes printed in white, and a white zone, corresponding to the stopper area. The video advertising was directed by famous French fashion photographer and music video director and presents an (obviously!) black and white movie, having the word “jazz” as the main character.
