While getting a suggestion from a sales person in relation to this fragrance (I confessed her previously that I love perfumes based on wood notes) I was at first surprised by the bottle. Designed by Serge Mansau and having an image that evokes a fire in the jungle, the stopper looks like something that you could describe as a mask, and overall it is certain that this is an unusual image. The perfume, on the other hand, called Idole is a woody spicy fragrance for men, introduced by Lubin in the year 2005 and developed by perfumer Olivia Giacobetti.
This happens to be the 466th fragrance from Lubin, a perfumery house founded in 1798, right after the French Revolution by Pierre Francoise Lubin, in Paris, at Rue Sainte Anne. Its creator, Olivia Giacobetti declared that: “Set the jungle on fire with a woody liqueur rich in scorching spices, as sweet as sugar cane, and as warm as leather”.
Initially sprayed on blotter, then applied on my wrist, Idole proved to be an ambivalent scent. The first accords represent a blend of rum absolute, saffron, bitter orange peel and black cumin, which produced me a comfortable sensation that warmed up my senses, just a little bit. Then, the heart developed an overdose of sweetness evidently coming from the sugar cane mixed with doum palm and smoked ebony that proved to be a little too much for my taste. For the base notes, the combination of leather and red sandalwood came as the perfect choice for an enjoyable finish.
Taking into account the exotic ingredients and the interesting story behind its creation, my conclusion is that Idole de Lubin is an interesting perfume that accidentally is a little excessive at the heart (for my taste!), but solves the problem soon with the excellently selected notes from the dry down.
