Humiecki & Graef is a niche line founded by Sebastian Fischenich and Tobias Muksch in the autumn of 2008, having as source of inspiration the maiden name of their grandmothers, like a tribute for 2 exceptional women. The majority being shared fragrances, the products of the house have a 20-25% concentration of perfume oil, which makes them more powerful compared to the majority of Eau de Parfums available.
Blask is a perfume introduced last autumn, as a unisex woody floral musk, based on oud and developed by perfumers Christophe Laudamiel and Christoph Hornetz. Blask represents the Polish wird for glow, shine or brilliance and the listed ingredients for this scent include bay laurel, walnut wood, red wine, floral notes and oud (agarwood).
Since oud is a very recurrent theme in the perfumery these days and many perfumers are going with the trend, I was afraid that I will not like it sufficiently, as to inspire me a buying thought. Not the case with Humiecki & Graef (sorry By Kilian, the Incense Oud might be pleasant, but it’s not what I’m looking for!). My first perfume ever sampled from this quite new house behaves like an exceptional creation, having the kind of atypical and sophisticated elegance that goes well in the summertime.
If the first accords in Blask seemed green to me, there is a certain point in the mid development which is perceived as somehow too sweet, however the dry down is absolutely sensational, while being one of the few perfumes that entered my “to buy list” right away. As an aside, my list is limited to only 4 scents: 1740 Marquis de Sade, L’Air du Desert Marocain, Olibanum and Om from Miller et Bertaux. On top of that, Blask does not follow the usual olfactory pyramid, having the shape of a star, which allows you to fully enjoy the notes at all times. And one more thing: it exhibits an exceptional persistence, of approximately 14 hours.
