October 2010 marks the arrival on the market of the new version of Guerlain’s Idylle, called Idylle Eau de Toilette. The feminine fragrance is described as a floral and according to the description from the official website “Thierry Wasser composed his bouquet like a florist, with a light, exuberant touch, to encapsulate the idea of the idyll, a joyous, light-hearted romance”.
The original creation with this name is the first fragrance in which my wife’s opinion and mine did not coincided, given that she kind of like it and I was untouched by its aroma. Therefore, after its arrival on the market I wanted to sample Idylle Eau de Toilette, in order to have an opinion. Reportedly, for this new interpretation, Thierry Wasser maintained the floral chypre facet from the Eau de Parfum version, while intensifying the floral bouquet by way of a “fresher and greener interpretation”.
Idylle Eau de Toilette top notes are Lily-of-the-Valley, white lilac, peony, jasmine and freesia; its heart is entirely made of Bulgarian Rose, “hand-picked in the Bulgarian valleys at dawn, when their scent is at its height, then selected one by one by Thierry Wasser”; and its base is shaped with musk.
In order to reflect this special creation, the flacon of Idylle Eau de Toilette was developed by designer Ora Ito, who imagined a shape that could be described as a drop in a golden color scheme, like “a tear of joy and feminine happiness”. The video advertisement features the French actress and singer Nora Arnezeder. Overall, I would not say that Idylle Eau de Toilette is better than the original however it is for sure a scent with a special character.
