Dedicated to a masculine audience that adores the warm and woody scents, Gucci Envy for Men was introduced in 1998, one year after its feminine counterpart. This fragrance belongs to the oriental woody olfactory group and was developed by Givaudan perfumer Daniela Andrier. Besides all these details, Envy for Men is one of my favorite perfumes from Gucci (I adore its classic style), next to Gucci Pour Homme and if I had to choose between these 2, I’ll take them both, since I can not make a selection.
I discovered Envy for Men quite late, 10 years after its launch, but I knew right away that I founded an ideal fragrance. Later on, I realized that the Creative Director behind the development of Envy for Men was Tom Ford, hence the explanation for its huge popularity. It is too bad that in the last years this scent was discontinued.
Envy for Men stands in the extinct category of truly classic masculine fragrance, next to Obsession from Calvin Klein and Polo from Ralph Lauren. The dominant accord of incense exhibited by Envy for Men fascinates me and its long persistence is utterly convincing. The opening of the scent represents a blend of cardamom, pepper, coriander and ginger, contrasted by the mandarin orange, elegant lavender and mahogany. The mid development encompasses notes of Rose, jasmine and carnation, combined with woody accords of cedar and sandalwood. For the close, the white musk, sweet vanilla, patchouli and vetiver are wrapped around elegant leather and warm amber, upon which the dominant note of incense is imbued with tobacco.
The bottle that holds Envy for Men reflects the minimalistic design in a declaration of pure elegance. The transparent glass with perfectly cut shapes that reveals the soft green color of the liquid is topped by a disproportionate cap, creating an image that’s incredible alluring. Overall, Envy for Men is definitely a perfume that you cannot ignore, in the category of classic masculine fragrances.
