Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme is not a terrible fragrance, just common, that portrays an elusive character. It arrived on the market in 2008, as the masculine counterpart of the 2007 Gucci by Gucci for women and was developed by the creative director of Gucci House, Frida Giannini in collaboration with Givaudan. As described by Ms. Giannini, this is s modern woody chypre Eau de Toilette characterizing the nowadays Gucci man, who is “elegant, cool, modern and contemporary, with a certain nonchalance”.
I can’t help but feel disappointed with Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme, but in a sincere analysis, Gucci has never been one of my favorites, having no interesting scent for my state, except maybe Envy. After sampling Gucci by Gucci on my skin I had the sensation of a fragrance that behaves too much, being the type of scent that is very common these days (read uninspired, boring). The fragrance opens with a citrus floral mix from bergamot, violet and cypress. The initial sensation is quite OK however it will not blow your mind. Upon evaporation, the initial notes are replaced by accords of black pepper, frankincense, leather, and tobacco. I have the sensation that tobacco would have been better employed for the base notes; instead, in the trail you will discover warm amber, mixed with Elemi resin, olibanum and patchouli.
The image and the marketing of the perfume were carefully planned, too bad that the product did not match the efforts. The bottle was made from heavy, thick grey glass, having the name engraved in the upper part and a stopper that is adorned with a horse’s bit. The video commercial was directed by Jan Wentz and features a black and white story having as star the American actor James Franco who takes a walk in a luxurious apartment.
