Gorgeous Gardenia is a flanker to 2009’s Flora by Gucci and belongs to the Flora Garden collection, introduced by Frida Giannini, Gucci’s creative director, a few weeks ago. As a representative of floral fruity olfactory group, the scent represents “Gucci’s faithful creation of the perfect gardenia” (from the official website’s description).
In spite of the fact that my wife enjoyed Flora sufficiently to consider an acquisition, I never thought of asking her to test any of the new scents, until being approach by a sales promoter in Sephora, with a blotter dabbed in Gorgeous Gardenia. Tested initially on paper and later on her skin, the scent revealed an over sweet facet, which is a little annoying (for some people!). If you like your fragrances sweet, then Gorgeous Garden is perfectly OK, but my take on this one is that the aromas could have been more subdued.
Gorgeous Gardenia opens on a combination of red berries and pear, followed almost immediately by the dominant note of white gardenia, blended with frangipani. Subsequent to a couple of hours, Gorgeous Gardenia turns gourmand, due to the addition of brown sugar accord in its base notes, juxtaposed by patchouli. Judging by the selection of these ingredients, I would have expected an improved final result, however I guess this will do.
The source of inspiration for creating this collection was, like in the case of Flora, the iconic scarf with floral patterns, developed by Gucci especially for the Princess of Monaco. The bottle that holds Gorgeous Garden preserves the line of its predecessor, however with an elongated shape and made from transparent glass. Flora Garden collection is fronted by model Abbey Lee Kershaw.
