When I first read about a new launch from Gucci called Flora, I became interested, given that the bottle had an alluring look. After a couple of month (I think it was the spring of 2010), I managed to test the scent, helped by my wife (of course!) and the fact is that we liked enough to consider a further acquisition. Later, we abandoned the thought, but the fact remains: this scent is well done.
Arrived on the market in April 2009, Flora is a floral fruity feminine fragrance, having as source of inspiration “an iconic design from the Gucci archives, that was rediscovered by Gucci creative director, Frida Giannini” (from the official Gucci website). Flora has a structure that feels pleasant from the top notes, the stage in which you will perceive a delicate aroma of citrus fruits and peony. Later, as the perfume ages, the heart adds complexity to this construction, with a blend of rose and rare osmanthus flower. Subsequent to a couple of hours, the base of Flora unveils the fresh and feminine facet, mixing sandalwood and patchouli.
According to the information found on the official website “Flora was first designed in 1966, as a special commission for Princess Grace de Monaco.” The floral pattern created at that time is replicated on the interior of the packaging box, in a black and white chromatic. The flask has hexagonal shape and is decorated with a black ribbon. For the advertising campaign, the Australian model Abbey Lee was employed. The resulted video, directed by Chris Cunningham features Abbey Lee dressed in a silk dress with floral print, on a set dominated by flowers, having as background the track “I Feel Love” from Donna Summer. Flora by Gucci will please a younger, sensual girl, a somewhat modified target, compared to the Gucci usual customer.
