Preceding with 2 years the popular Acqua Azzurra, Gianfranco Ferre’s Ferre for Men was launched in 2006. The scent belongs to the woody floral musk olfactory group and was developed by perfumer Pierre Bourdon, being centered on the accord of black iris, as a masculine counterpart of 2005’s Ferre Eau de Parfum.
Ferre for Men represents Gianfranco Ferre’s vision on masculine luxury, embodied by a perfume which brings the woody and powdery accords into a perfect balance. Ferre for Men’s top notes are iris leaves, lavender, pineapple and bergamot; its heart is black iris, jasmine, rose, geranium and orange blossom; base notes are musk, vetiver, sandalwood, Tonka bean, oakmoss, patchouli, sweet vanilla and warm amber.
Preserving the masculine Italian elegance, this fragrance is, in my opinion a statement of refinement, conferred by an image that exudes class. While I was testing it 6 years ago (recommended by a Sephora sales assistant) I realized that this scent is appropriate for both day and evening wear and has a quite reasonable persistence. The dominant note responsible for this pleasant aroma is, as mentioned earlier, a type of black iris cultivated in Middle East’s desert area, in the proximity of the Dead Sea.
The image of Ferre for Men is reflected by a rectangular shaped bottle made from transparent glass and revealing a soft yellow liquid. The flask is topped by a stylish squared stopper, while the packaging box comes in an elegant brown color scheme.
