Greene Street is the second perfume I tested from Etro, and one from which I had huge expectations. Coming after Messe de Minuit, one of my pillars in the incense benchmark (although on the last position!), it is understandable why I imagined nothing but the best.
Arrived on the market in October 2012, Greene Street represents a masculine oriental spicy that derived its name from Etro’s SoHo boutique. The store address is at 89 Greene Street, and was launched also in 2012 in one of New York City’s famous neighborhoods. A nice story related to this is the one from the official website, where it is mentioned the phrase: “A symphony of spices create the perfect scent for the modern cosmopolitan man, for those who follow fashion but add their own unique touch of personality to every look”.
I guess it is needles to say that, what prompted me to consider sniffing Greene Street was the presence of incense among its list of ingredients. As a thorough (and sometimes annoying!) researcher of the fragrances based on this relaxing note, I thought I could find another take on the enchanting unisex from 1994. Sadly, what I discovered was another well-done fragrance, suitable for a special man.
Greene Street opens on a slight spicy combination that involves the notes of pink pepper, basil and nutmeg. Then, as the initial notes subside and Greene Street enters its mid development phase, the aroma of incense (frankincense) kicks in, juxtaposed to a floral mixture that features geranium and violet. The incense accord is prolonged even in the dry down, although from that point onward, the fragrance veers to a calm and relaxed facet that encompasses sandalwood, labdanum, benzoin and grey amber. At a certain point during dry down, a sweeter and more feminine side is revealed.
The bottle that encloses the liquid is Etro’s signature flacon, made from a transparent glass that reveals a golden liquid and topped by the silver stopper adorned with decorations. Overall, Greene Street is an interesting perfume, however I’ll advise testing, in order to come up with a more personal opinion.
