After the popular Z Zegna from 2005, Ermenegildo Zegna introduced in September 2007 a new flanker, the type of masculine woody spicy christened with the name Z Zegna Extreme. This limited edition fragrance was developed by perfumer Antoine Lie and was advertised with the tagline “an absolute of Z Zegna” and “a new interpretation, intense and male, for a man without limits: simply extreme!”.
The perfume was presented in a flacon that looks like as if was made from metal, in a clear intention to unveil a powerful and intense character. And given that over the time, I had two fragrances from Ermenegildo Zegna in my perfume wardrobe (Essenza di Zegna and Zegna Intenso), the desire to sample Z Zegna Extreme over my skin occurred as expected.
Sadly, this occasion did not inspire me a buying thought but fortunately this proved to be not such a bad perfume either, just the type of well-behaved scent. Z Zegna Extreme starts off with a citrus mix that brings over a pungent freshness: grapefruit, juniper and mandarin. Later, as the perfume advanced slowly into the mid development and the top notes subsided, you will be embarked into a heart filled with casoar fruit, cardamom and the unmistakable accord of rose. The dry down marks the evolution into a well balanced construction that kicks in with woody accords of Kashmire wood, vetiver and sensual patchouli.
Overall, Z Zegna Extreme is the perfect choice for a summer fragrance, when you want to lie down under the burning sun and your activities are more than any other time focused on relaxation.
