The French fashion designer Emanuel Ungaro founded in Paris his own business, in 1965. The son of a tailor who fled Italy during the fascist regime, Ungaro made his training by working for Cristobal Balenciaga, starting with the age of 22 and, for only a very brief period, the ultra-modern fashion house Courrèges. The debut in fragrance business was made in 1983 with Diva, a classic women perfume. Emanuel Ungaro left the company in 2005, and since then, the group is owned by businessman Asim Abdullah.
Apparition Homme was introduced by Ungaro in 2005 as a masculine fragrance belonging to the woody aromatic olfactory group and developed by perfumer Olivier Polge. I admit that at first I was interested in Apparition purely due to its look, until I sniffed it for the first time and changed my mind. With respect to that, I would reveal the conclusion and confess that the bottle remains the most interesting aspect of this fragrance. The shape that looks like a slab of transparent glass is excellently contrasted by the soft blue color of the liquid and the ruby shade present on both the perfume’s name and the spraying cap.
The structure of Apparition Homme is typical for its category, with the common olfactory pyramid composed of top, middle and base notes. Thus, the beginning represents a blend of anise, mandarin orange and rhubarb. After no more that 15 minutes, the mid development reveals its spicy facet, in a combination of pepper and tea from which tea is the dominant side. The final stage is the most pleasant, due to the lovely aroma of licorice, which was combined with vetiver root.
