With an atmosphere inspired by the magnificent capital of the United Kingdom, London was presented by Dunhill in 2008 as a masculine oriental fougere fragrance. Described on the official website with the tagline “the signature scent”, this perfumer “defines masculine elegance through a meeting of quintessential appeal with modern desirability”. Furthermore, the target audience was also revealed, as a category represented by “any gentleman that embraces his surroundings, exudes his personality, and embodies the city in which he lives”.
Since at that time I was not interested in any of the Dunhill scents (I guess, Custom, my favorite fragrance from Dunhill was still preparing to be launched!) I tested London with uncertainty, to discover in the end a well-behaved fragrance that sits nicely on the skin and is more pleasant compared to the large majority of the current masculine scents. The listed ingredients in London include red apple, jasmine, rose, patchouli, geranium, sandalwood, vanilla, musk and Tonka bean.
The face selected to appear in the advertisement campaign is the British actor Henry Cavill, famous for playing an important part in Showtime’s “The Tudors”. The video commercial is shot in a hue which matches the color employed for the liquid and showcases the beautiful city with all its landmarks. London comes in a bottle with rectangular shapes and perfectly cut edges. The transparent glass reveals a liquid with a blue-grey shade and is topped by a silver cap. The packaging box has a color scheme that is inspired by UK’s flag and overall, London is characterized by elegance.
