The fashion and perfume line from DSQUARED2 are characterized by a carefully constructed image and obsession for details and quality. Their latest masculine addition to the collection was introduced in 2011 as a woody aromatic fragrance, developed by perfumer Annick Menardo. This perfume was imagined to play the part of a magic elixir, aimed to stimulate intense erotic desires.
I sampled Potion last year in December, and from the first sniff I was fascinated by its offer of pleasant olfactory sensations. The first accords in Potion represent a blend of red mint leaves, angelica and thyme. Then, as these accords are fading away, the replacement comes in the shape of cinnamon, swathed in gentian, rose petals and black peppercorns. For the dry down, an elegant and sensual combination of amber, musk, cashmere wood and patchouli is leaving a memorable trail.
The image of Potion has a retro-style appearance. The flask that looks similar to an old pharmaceutical recipient brings to mind tradition, while the transparent glass reveals a liquid that has a whisky hue. The stopper comes in black, complementary to the chromatic of the label, which is engraved on the glass surface. The fragrance was conceived to be an instrument of seduction, an accessory for the modern man that arouses an uncontrollable lust for the opposite sex. Overall, Potion is one of the best male fragrances from 2011 and it could constitute a further acquisition.
