The masculine edition of the perfume with the same name was, in my opinion, one of the most interesting launches from the mainstream perfumery during last year. Subsequent to having the chance to sniff DSQUARED2’s Potion I was impressed by its air of originality brought into the spotlight due to the two brothers Caten.
Now, after one year, the feminine counterpart is making its debut bearing a name that leaves no room for interpretations: Potion for Woman. Arrived on the market in September this year, this new fragrance was developed by perfumer Christine Nagel and is deemed as a chypre floral.
Given that I was so anxious to sample it right away, my wife give in right away to my pleas, so there I was standing in front of the shelves with the perfumes corresponding to the letter “D” at Douglas, and trying to spray a couple of whiffs on her wrist.
The moments that followed were dominated by a cocktail of fruits and the refreshing facet discharged by this “regular scent of seduction”, the expression used by the officials to describe Potion for Woman. The opening of this scent is divided between the accords of citrus and the floral-fruity combination that’s meant to awake the senses. Official notes for this phase are: bergamot, violet and blackberry.
Then, Potion for Woman evolves into something that might be considered a floral bouquet with a nice touch. The rose fights for supremacy, among the soft accords of jasmine, Lily-of-the-valley and rhubarb. By the time Potion for Woman reaches dry down, you will be able to perceive its sensual and sophisticated mix of black and white musk, juxtaposed to an accord of black amber and sweetened by the note of vanilla mixed with patchouli.
The bottle that contains the essence was obviously inspired by its masculine counterpart, in which the apothecary look plays a major part, making you instantly imagine the alchemist shops from the past. On the other hand, the slogan “From the science of seduction to the essence of seduction” is matching perfectly the visual image promoted by the video commercial, in which the power of seduction represents the main theme. Overall, I’ll say that Potion for Woman is worthy of its predecessor, two perfumes based on the concept of seduction, that succeeded in making real an idea that represented a fine starting point.
