By Man from Dolce&Gabbana was introduced in the year 1997 as a masculine oriental woody fragrance aimed at the men from the young generation who are looking for an unpretentious, simple and common fragrance, ideal for a day to day wearing occasion.
Since I was not able to sample this scent at the moment of its launch and it seems that lately it’s becoming hard to get by on the perfumery shelves, I’m glad I had a chance to sniff it eight years ago, in a Sephora store. Back then I was quite easily impressed by any fragrance which came attached to a famous name, so I would say that By Men gave me a pleasant sensation.
If I would have to test it again, I would bet that my level of satisfaction would not reach half from the previous time. The olfactory structure of By Men is a concoction of fresh spicy, herbal, woody and animalic notes, intended to confer the perfume a feeling of magnetism which is hard to ignore.
The opening notes from By Men represent a combination of citruses and spices, in which the employed ingredients were pepper and walnut, followed quite quickly by an aromatic heart that puts emphasis on the masculine character. The mid development ingredients include lavender and artemisis. Finally, for the dry down, a blend of wood (sandalwood and Guaiac wood) combined with sensual leather and warm amber render a more personal sensation to this perfume.
The bottle that contains By Men has a cylindrical shape and replicates the animal print pattern in a silver and black color scheme.
