This is not about the theory according to which you will always deem the latest perfume you sampled as the one more likely to become a favorite. Because you may trust me when I say that I had my fair share of citrus aromatic fragrances since I discovered my passion for perfumes. However one fact remains and this is Oyedo, one of the most gorgeous and exquisite fragrances based on citrus accords sampled by me as of this writing.
Introduced by Diptyque in 2000, this is a unisex citrus aromatic. Its name came from Edo (former spelling Yedo), Tokyo’s previous name, the city in which fresh fragrances based on citrus fruits are much cherished. Encompassing a large array of fresh notes (yuzu, grapefruit, lime, orange, mint, thyme ad cedarwood), Oyedo is similar to a breath of fresh air for a perfume lover.
The top notes in Oyedo combine some truly bright accords, which are joined in later by a delightful aroma of orange. Later on, the dry down attaches a warm and reassuring aroma of woods to this construction and provides a calm atmosphere. At some point throughout the mid development I was beginning to perceive Oyedo as over-sweet, fortunately the notes that kicked in later convince me that this was nothing but a hasty conclusion.
The essence is contained in the lovely signature bottle from Diptyque and at the same time the transparent glass reveals a pale green liquid. In conclusion, Oyedo added one more point to the very positive image I shaped for Diptyque in my mind. Overall, this represents an ideal fragrance for the winter time of the year and also in the early spring, the kind that awakes your senses for a complete olfactory experience.
