I admit that when I first read about a new fragrance from Diesel and I saw the picture of the bottle I was impressed in a bad way. Then, as soon as I had the opportunity to test it, I kept an open mind and finally I surpassed my initial bad impression. Fuel for Life was introduced by Diesel in 2007, in order to celebrate the brand’s come back to the perfumery universe. Besides, the company that became famous for its innovative approach to marketing wanted to introduce as well the result of its collaboration with L’Oreal, started with the agreement signed in 2006.
Diesel Fuel for Life Homme was launched concomitantly with its feminine counterpart and is an aromatic fougere fragrance, developed by 2 perfumers: Annick Menardo and Jacques Cavallier. Described on the official website, Fuel for Life Homme is “A magic potion of mysterious star anise, vintage raspberry and authentic heliotrope for him”. Luckily, the construction of this scent is not as “trashy” as the bottle’s image.
The scent opens with fresh accords of grapefruit combined with star anise. In the mid development, the exquisite perfume of lavender becomes powdery due to its combination with heliotrope. For the trail, the woody notes are mixed with immortelle and raspberry accords to provide a fruity aspect. The creation of the 2 perfumers from Firmenich will surely impress you with its accentuated fresh notes.
Fuel for Life Homme comes in a bottle that can only be described as weird, according to my taste. The flask that reminds of a whisky bottle is enveloped in a brown canvas that looks like vaguely worn. For the video advertisement, the innovation comes in the form of 3 commercials with the titles: “Corridor”, “Rain” and “Running” in which the slogan is represented by the question “Are You Alive?” followed by the urge “Use with Caution”. Overall, if you are not bothered by the bottle, Fuel for Life Homme is an interesting fragrance that could find a spot in your wardrobe.
